Redness in Adults – Symptoms and Prevention

Redness on the skin in adults is a common problem caused by dilation and rupture of blood vessels. It affects both women, men, and children. Usually, redness appears on the face, but similar skin changes can also be observed on the neck and décolletage. Want to learn what symptoms indicate redness? Is it permanent skin damage that won’t go away on its own? Read this article to find out everything about dilated and bursting blood vessels.

How to recognize redness on the face?

Redness on the face can be recognized by a characteristic, often intense skin redness that usually appears on the cheeks, nose, and sometimes spreads to the forehead and chin. Symptoms may also include a burning or itching sensation, and the skin in the affected area may feel warmer to the touch. In some cases, redness may also be associated with visible blood vessels, especially in people with couperose skin or rosacea.

Vascular skin and redness in adults – what should you know?

Every person has a different skin type. Some are more prone to skin changes and redness, while others are completely resistant to bursting blood vessels. Predispositions to excessive dilation and rupture of blood vessels are mainly found in individuals who neglect proper skin care. Genetic factors also play a key role here.

The face, or more specifically the skin on the face, is usually delicate and quickly loses moisture. If we do not maintain proper hydration, we expose ourselves to strong external influences, leading to irritation and redness.

Vascular redness mainly occurs because the skin on the face contains superficial capillaries, which become highly visible when they dilate. Depending on the severity, redness can range from pink to, in extreme cases, red.

While redness itself may not be a problem, spider veins on the cheeks, chin, and neck can persist for a long time. Without professional skincare and dermatological treatments, it can be difficult to eliminate this issue.

Types of facial redness – which ones do we distinguish?

Facial redness is a skin condition that takes various forms. Although the symptoms are mostly similar and the causes are alike, redness can affect different parts of the body. The types include:

  • Persistent redness – caused by regular use of medications, antibiotics, and pain relievers.
  • Scleredema – caused by tuberculosis bacilli, with inflammatory changes that may ulcerate.
  • Hand redness – often related to liver failure or high blood pressure.
  • Erythema migrans – the most common symptom of Lyme disease, which presents as a circular rash.

The last type is erythema due to lupus erythematosus, which appears around the nose and forehead. It has a butterfly shape and is often accompanied by muscle and joint pain.

Treating redness – are laser treatments effective?

To effectively remove unsightly redness and undesirable spider veins caused by bursting blood vessels, laser treatments are recommended. The treatment approach should be tailored to the cause of the redness. Nonetheless, vascular changes can be effectively removed with laser beams, which target the pigment present in the blood vessels.
