An acoustic wave is a rather complex concept, and understanding it requires familiarity with physical terminology. Nevertheless, it is worth learning more about this phenomenon because its effects can positively influence weight loss, fat reduction, and cellulite. This wave is used in aesthetic medicine, and treatments involving it are very popular. Why?
Acoustic Wave
An acoustic wave belongs to longitudinal waves, propagating through a medium with disturbed density. It can move through all states of matter – solids, liquids, and gases. Contrary to stereotypical beliefs, acoustic waves are not only sound waves audible to the human ear but also those at very high frequencies, which are not detected by any human senses. Ultrasound, that is, acoustic waves at the highest frequencies, have found extensive applications in medicine, especially in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. However, it turns out that this wave is extremely effective in reducing cellulite and fat, which is why it is increasingly used in aesthetic medicine as Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT).
Acoustic Wave for Cellulite
One reason why acoustic wave therapy is popular in aesthetic medicine is its effect on skin tissues. Acting on connective tissue with very high frequencies, it significantly improves its tension and elasticity. Additionally, waves stimulate microcirculation and break down hardened collagen, blocking accumulated fat cells. This not only reduces cellulite but also addresses its direct cause, ensuring longer-lasting results. Acoustic wave therapy for cellulite is also effective as a preventive treatment, improving skin condition and preventing the formation of unsightly changes.
Acoustic Wave for Weight Loss and Body Shaping
AWT procedures are part of fat reduction treatments that are effective for weight loss and body shaping. The direct action of sound waves on fat cells causes their breakdown and removal from the body. As a result, the circumference of the treated area decreases. It effectively sculpts the figure by increasing tension at the connective tissue level, while the remaining fat tissue is maintained at its level.
What the Acoustic Wave Treatment Looks Like
A special gel is applied to the selected area of the body to be treated, aimed at focusing the wave energy so it is not lost before reaching its target. Then, using a special device, ultrasound waves are applied to the skin. The entire process lasts about 30 minutes and is completely safe for the skin, usually painless. Mild discomfort may occur in patients with higher pain sensitivity. The procedure does not affect daily functioning in any way, and there are no post-treatment recommendations. However, acoustic wave therapy should be postponed in case of:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- presence of a tumor,
- corticosteroid treatment (medications should be discontinued at least 6 weeks before the planned procedure),
- use of anticoagulant medications.
Individuals under 18 should also refrain from the treatment, and approval for its execution in this case should be granted by a doctor after prior consultation. AWT procedures are also not recommended for people suffering from blood clotting problems.
