How does depilation cream work?

Removing unwanted hair with cream is chemical depilation. Such cream works by dissolving the hair, more specifically the keratin inside the hair. Products of this type resemble those used during permanent wave treatments but are stronger. Hair dissolving occurs only on the visible parts of the hair – it does not damage the hair bulbs.

Depilation with cream – how to do it properly?

First, clean and dry the skin. The day before, a gentle exfoliation can be performed to remove ingrown hairs and prepare for the depilation procedure. Then, apply the depilation cream to the dry skin. A spatula, usually included in the package, can be used for this. The cream should remain on the skin for several minutes. After this time, check if the keratin has been dissolved. If the hairs do not come off, you can leave it for a few more minutes. However, do not exceed the maximum time recommended by the manufacturer. If the hairs come off easily, remove the cream with a spatula – residues should be rinsed off with warm water.

How to choose a depilation cream?

The best depilation cream is the one suited to your skin’s needs. Many types are available in cosmetic stores, including:

• for sensitive skin.

Depilation creams vary depending on the part of the body where they are used. Creams for legs are more potent than those for the face or bikini area, as skin on the legs is more resistant to irritation and thicker. It is not recommended to use the same cream on all body parts. A very strong cream can, for example, cause allergic reactions on the face. It is better to buy a product specifically designed for that purpose, which works milder and is tailored to those areas. Before applying such a product to the face, a test should be performed to check your skin’s reaction to the depilation cream. Apply a small amount and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. After this procedure, wait 24 hours. If no allergic reaction occurs, you can safely use the cream on larger facial areas.

• No ingrown hairs – during depilation, hairs are dissolved and fall out, preventing the formation of painful, inflammatory bumps, or ingrown hairs,
