What Are the Causes of Skin Redness and How to Deal with Them? Ways to Even Out Skin Tone

Skin redness is a common issue that can result from many causes, including hyperreactivity of blood vessels, allergic reactions, or skin inflammations. Symptoms can vary, but often include redness, swelling, and sometimes pain and itching. There are many treatment methods, both professional and home remedies, that can help ease symptoms and improve the appearance of the skin.

Causes and Symptoms of Changed Skin Tone

Redness of the skin is one of the basic signs that something is wrong. It may be due to improper skin care, irritations, or many other factors. By examining discolorations and redness on the face and entire body, the underlying cause can be diagnosed. The most common include:

  • Dull or dry skin,
  • Irritations caused by improper care,
  • Broken capillaries, known as spider veins,
  • Skin spots caused by pigmentation disorders,
  • Allergies,
  • Rosacea,
  • Post-acne scars (also after hormonal acne),
  • Scars from mechanical injuries.

These are just some of the causes that can trigger skin redness. Particularly problematic are skin discolorations caused by improper pigment production, as well as scars and post-acne changes, because such alterations cannot be treated directly, only various methods of skin tone correction can be applied.

Skin redness can be caused by couperose skin, allergic reactions, excessive sun exposure, infections, and other skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. Symptoms can include not only redness but also burning, itching, and swelling.
Methods of treating and preventing skin redness:

  • Dermocosmetics: UV protection creams, moisturizing creams with vitamin C, and soothing skincare products are key in caring for sensitive, redness-prone skin
  • Home remedies: Applying aloe vera, chamomile, black seed, or calendula can help soothe inflammatory skin conditions. Aloe reduces redness, and chamomile alleviates itching
  • Diet: A proper diet rich in antioxidants and vitamins can support skin health. It is recommended to drink plenty of water and consume vegetables and fruits

Depending on the cause, there are many ways to restore the skin’s appearance. If irritations, improper care, or allergies are the issues, the primary goal should be to improve the skin’s condition and support skin health.

For broken capillaries, effective methods include laser treatments, which allow for their closure and strengthening, significantly reducing facial redness. For changes such as scars and pigmentation that cannot be treated, the simplest way — though not always the most effective — is to minimize their visibility with more or less permanent measures.

Removing Discolorations with Laser

Home remedies for uneven skin tone and discoloration are unfortunately not long-lasting or highly effective. However, this does not mean you must get used to unsightly changes. Thanks to new technologies, these imperfections can be almost completely eliminated. Laser treatments can reduce scars and discolorations, restoring a smooth, healthy look to the skin.

Types of Lasers and Effects

  • Fractional Lasers: Effective in rejuvenating aging and sun-damaged skin, improving texture, elasticity, and reducing scars. They work by creating microscopic wounds, which trigger the body’s natural healing process and stimulate collagen production without damaging surrounding tissue.
  • Ablative and Non-Ablative Lasers: Ablative lasers remove the outer skin layer and heat the underlying skin, stimulating collagen growth, which improves skin texture and color. Non-ablative lasers focus on heating the underlying skin beneath the outer layer, offering a gentler option with minimal recovery time.

One such treatment is using Emerge laser. It is a fractional laser that operates with incredible precision, targeting only the affected areas, remaining completely unaffected for surrounding healthy tissues. For safety, a consultation with a doctor is required before the procedure, during which contraindications are excluded, and laser parameters are tailored to the patient’s needs.

Skin Tone Changes – Summary

It is important to consider potential risks such as scarring and pigmentation changes, especially for people with darker skin tones or those prone to keloids. Recent advances have made laser procedures safer for all skin types, but choosing an experienced dermatologist is key to minimizing risks.

Utilizing laser treatment allows for visible results. Each session lasts from 15 to 60 minutes, and depending on the skin condition, a series of 3 to 6 treatments may be necessary for full effect. Completing the full course can nearly eliminate blemishes and restore an even, smooth skin appearance.
